Favorites: October 2019

October was a tough month for a lot of reasons however there were many things that made me smile and have fun throughout theΒ  month of October as well and I would like to share some of those things with you today.

Super Awesome Boba Tea Meet (Event):

On October 4th I got to meet Adam McArthur who played Marco Diaz on Star vs the Forces of Evil (one of my favorite shows). He and a few fans hosted a meet in a park so we could hang out and meet Adam as well as other fans of the show. Many people came in cosplay and it was really cool to discuss cosplay with them and ask them for some pointers. I love the idea of conventions and being able to talk to people about various anime, video games and cartoons but there was something really special about being at this event that was dedicated to one show. All of the other fans there were really kind and fun to talk to. Meeting Adam was amazing! I had corresponded with him on Twitter before about my fan art and the show when new episodes were coming out. It was so exciting to finally meet someone I admire so much in person. Adam really took the time to talk to each fan and show appreciation to everyone who came which was really sweet. Also the Boba Tea was amazing (best Boba I have had so far). I really hope that I get to meet Adam again someday. Until then I have really fun memories from that day that will bring a smile to my face for years to come πŸ˜€

Melon Pan (Food):

On the same day that I met Adam a friend and I stopped by Kinokuniya (a Japanese bookstore in NYC). The bookstore has a very nice cafe with some popular and common Japanese foods. Years of watching anime has made me curious to try lots of foods shown in anime, one of them being Melon Pan (Melon Bread). I had no idea what to expect from this pastry but I had heard from others that it was good so I took the opportunity to try it at Kinokuniya and you know what? I loved it! It was sweet but not too sweet and the texture was very muchΒ  like a cookie. I have been thinking about having Melon Pan again ever since I tried it (It’s December 1st when I am writing this XD).

Varian (Halloween Costume):

I love Halloween and dressing up in cosplay. Halloween is also one of my favorite holidays because for most people it is a day just to have fun and dress up as whatever you want. That’s exactly the kind of day I had on Halloween. It was the best Halloween I have had in years because I didn’t have to worry about school so I spent my time that day fully immersing myself in the spirit of the holiday and really enjoying it. I dressed up as Varian from Tangled: The Series. Throughout October I kept getting together parts of the costume whenever I could until it finally all came together. I was so happy with the way my costume looked and felt a sense of pride for having pulled it off. I would also like to add that the creator of Tangled: The Series approved of my costume by replying to a post of my costume on Twitter with #Proud (referencing the song Make you Proud that Varian sings in the series). It made me very happy to get that kind of recognition. πŸ˜€

A Tale of Magic By: Chris Colfer (Book):

I have been doing a lot of reading lately but A Tale of Magic is definitely the best book I have read recently. Chris Colfer knows how to write characters who feel very organic and the characters in this story are no exception and are in my opinion some of the best characters he has come up with. The characters have desires and fears that a lot of people can relate to and at the same time they are also very determined to overcome their obstacles, that was truly inspirational to me as a reader. While this book is a prequel to Chris Colfer’s The Land of Stories series, it also stands very well on it’s own and for that reason A Tale of Magic is the Chris Colfer book that I recommend you to read first-it is that good.

Thank you for reading my October monthly favorites. πŸ™‚

Trick-or-Readathon 2019 TBR

At last I have complied a TBR for Trick- or-Readathon. I probably won’t finish all of these but I am fairly confident that I will read at least 3 books since 3 of them are graphic novels and some of the other books I have picked out at fairly short. I have overlapped prompts for some reads and I encourage other to do the same-this is supposed to be fun so make things easy on yourself.

1. The Plant that Ate Dirty Socks By: Nancy McArthur. This is my pick for a book with a strange title-Stranger Things This book was one that was read to my class in elementary school and I have been wanting to revisit it for years. From what I remember there are 2 brothers who have to share a room, one is a neat freak and the other is a slob and they have to learn to get along and work together when mysterious things start happening around their house. I look forward to revisiting this book from my childhood.

2. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child By: J. K. Rowling, Jack Thorne, and John Tiffany. This book will cover 2 prompts for me because it is outside of my comfort zone to read a play (Paranormal Exploration) and it is a book about a witch or wizard (Witchcraft and Wizardry). I am such a huge Harry Potter fan and I have held off reading this book for far too long.

3. Gaba Kawa Vol. 1 By: Rie Takada. I bought this manga a while back and still haven’t gotten to it. I think it will fit the prompt for a character for undergoes a transformation (Hocus Pocus) very well because it is about a demon who falls in love and starts to loose her powers…sounds more like a de-transformation but I’ll count it. XD

4. Kodocha: Sana’s Stage Vol. 1 By: Miho Obana.Β This manga has meant a lot to me and I look forward to any opportunity to re-read it so this will count as my re-read an old favorite (Candy!) prompt.

Screen Shot 2019-10-16 at 5.31.27 PM.png

5. Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children By: Ransom Riggs. This is another one that I am using for 2 prompts. It has a mysterious and/or magical setting (Haunted Mansion) and a friend has been telling me to read it for a VERY long time (You’re Being Haunted). I am really looking forward to reading this one so my friend and I can discuss it. πŸ˜€

Screen Shot 2019-10-16 at 5.36.20 PM.png

6. The Halloween Tree By: Ray Bradbury. This is a book that I have been wanting to read since I saw the cartoon of it a few years ago. The movie was very good and I look forward to seeing how the book differs. Also it’s a Halloween book so how can I not? This one will count for a book with orange on the cover (Pumpkin Spice).

7. Percepolis By: Marjane Satrapi. This is a book that I borrowed from my boyfriend that looks interesting. I’ve heard good things about it. This one counts as my randomly selected book (A Shot in the Dark) since I had my sister pick it out what I was going to read for this from out of a hat.

I am really looking forward to Trick-or-Readathon!!! I hope to see you all then on Twitter and whatnot πŸ˜€

Favorites: September 2019

I didn’t do my favorites for July or August yet….I wanted to catch up but honestly it’s probably never going to happen. Onward to my birthday month Favorites! XD

Steven Universe: The Movie (Cartoon Network Movie):

This movie far exceeded my expectations. I am usually not a fan of time skips in stories but Steven Universe: The Movie did it amazingly. The animation was the best from Steven Universe so far in my opinion and the music was also incredible. I really loved the villain Spinel and sympathized with her. Spinel’s character animation was very fluid and fast paced. It was very reminiscent of old Mickey Mouse cartoons. As a fan of classic Disney animation, I really appreciate what the Steven Universe team did with Spinel. I hope we get to see more of Spinel’s character in the future. :3

Skip Beat! (Manga):

I have finally gotten the chance to try out Skip Beat by: Yoshiki Nakamura. I had a feeling I would enjoy this long running shojo but I was not prepared for how much I would enjoy it. The story is about a young girl Kyoko who dropped out of high school to be with her childhood friend Sho in Tokyo while he went for his dreams of being becoming a star. Kyoko worked 2 jobs to pay for Sho’s apartment and living expenses. When she went to see him at work one day she overheard him talking about how pathetic he thought Kyoko was and that she will do anything for him. Sho was heartless and did not care that he hurt Kyoko. He told Kyoko that she was a nobody and it was then that Kyoko vowed to also become a star to get her revenge by becoming more famous than Sho. I did not think I would get this behind a revenge story but I really did. Kyoko is a character who is crazy but also kind and love-able and you want her to succeed. Even though this is a story about revenge it is also a powerful story about woman’s empowerment and the value of self-worth. Even though Kyoko wants her revenge, in the manga she is also learning to value herself, something she had a lot of issues with when she was dating Sho. If you enjoy shojo manga I encourage you to check out Skip Beat! Even though the series is long it is well worth your time. This series is 100% worth the hype!

Spyro Reignited Trilogy (PS4 Game):

I never played the original Spyro games for the PS1 so this was my first time playing Spyro. I heard a lot of amazing things about the series from my boyfriend and my friends so I was excited to give it a try. In the first game I really enjoyed exploring the new worlds, collecting gems, and freeing the dragons who were turned into stone. The game is very challenging as it goes on but it never ceases to be fun. I found the Ice Cavern world extremely challenging but I was proud of myself when I finally retrieved all the gems and reached 100%. It is sad that Spyro has to kill animals to feed his dragonfly companion but I try not to think about it too much. I am now on the second game and I love how Spyro can now go under water, something I wished I could do in the first game. The Spyro games are always humorous, exciting, and adorable. It’s weird but playing the games almost makes me feel nostalgic as well even though I neverΒ  played the original trilogy. How does Spyro manage to accomplish that? Anyways I am excited to play more Spyro even as I am typing this. πŸ˜€

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth (PS4 Game):

I have been a Digimon fan for years, especially of the third season of Digimon titled Tamers. One of the main character’s Digimon in that season is a long eared, adorable creature named Terriermon. Terriermon is hands down my favorite Digimon. He is cute, feisty and hilarious.Β  Anyways, when I found out there was a Digimon game for the PS4 with Terriermon on the cover I knew I had to get that game. Thankfully some friends made my wish come true for my birthday. The game is everything I want from a Digimon game including battles, capturing Digimon, epic music, and being able to travel between the Digital World and the real world. To top it all off it is also a detective story of sorts. Due to plot reasons I don’t want to spoil, you end up assisting a detective with a cyber crime case. This game is amazing and I love everything about it so far. I highly recommend it if you grew up watching Digimon like i did. πŸ˜€

Disenchantment Season 2 (Netflix Series):

Yet another animated Netflix series with a second season that surpassed the first. Season 2 of Disenchantment is nothing short of amazing. In this season Bean goes beyond, and below, Dreamland to new and exciting places. I was blown away by the creativity of these new places for the characters to explore. My two favorites of the new settings are the Underworld, where Luci the demon comes from, and Steamland, a city with a steam punk athletic where new technology is being created. I am so excited to see what happens to the trio next and what other places they will explore in the next season. πŸ˜€

I appreciate you taking the time to look at my monthly favorites. See you soon πŸ˜‰

Favorites: June 2019

Summer really flew by. August is almost over. I kept getting too lazy and tired to write. I would like to catch up on my monthly favorites lists now. Now for June’s….

Toy Story 4 (Pixar Movie):

Toy Story 3 seemed like it was the perfect conclusion to the Toy Story franchise. Fans of the series, while excited to see the characters again as well as for the return of Bo Peep were also worried about how the quality of this movie’s storytelling would be. Toy Story 4 seems to have mixed reviews among critics and fans of the nostalgic property. I am among the people who LOVED the film. Without spoiling anything I can say that the film surprised me with it’s new creative settings. I loved the vintage shop, the carnival and the park. Just when you think that Toy Story has done it all they surprise you with more true to life scenarios from the perspective of toys. Forky is a wonderful character that I think everyone can appreciate. He is the representation of those homemade toys and arts and crafts creations that we also had as kids. Forky was made of trash so he thinks that he is trash but Woody has to teach Forky that he was made by Bonnie to be her toy and Woody learned about himself on his journey to help Forky. If you love Pixar, Toy Story or animation in general, you need to see this movie. I can’t wait to own it πŸ˜€

Screen Shot 2019-08-29 at 10.11.01 PM

Witch Hat Atelier (Manga):

Every once in a while I come across a manga that I believe needs to be made into a anime immediately. Witch Hat Atelier is one of those series. The artwork and the world are both gorgeous. I went in expecting something that was more like Little Witch Academia, but Witch Hat Atelier is a fantasy story with a magic school that stands on its own.Β  It has a very unique magic system that I think fantasy fans as well as artist will love. This is a series that I will be on top of collecting as the new volumes come out because the story is so addictive. I can’t wait to see where the story goes. I have heard many people compare it to Ghibli and I can see why. Ghibli, anime and manga fans should all check out Witch Hat Atelier.

Chasing Happiness (Jonas Brothers Documentary):

This may come as a surprise to some people but once upon a time when I was in high school I was a HUGE fan of the Jonas Brothers. I loved their music and their bond as brothers. I also had a huge crush on Nick. As they brothers grew up they started to grow apart as their lives started going in different directions. Fans like myself were crushed when the band decided to go their separate ways. To me it didn’t seem like something that could logically happen because they are brothers and they love each other so much. This year old fans were trilled that the Jonas Brothers got back together. Their newest album Happiness Begins has some of the greatest music they have ever created together as brothers and as a band. Along with the album came a documentary called Chasing Happiness. In the documentary the brothers are truthful about the mistakes they made in the past and what caused their break up. It was heartbreaking to see them discuss what happened but it was also heartwarming watching the brothers find their way back to each other through exploration of who they were and who they wanted to be going forward as individuals, as brothers and as a band. This documentary made me cry multiple times. Anyone who every was a fan of the Jonas Brothers should watch this documentary. It is available on Amazon Prime.

Aggretsuko Season 2 (Netflix Original Series):

The long awaited Aggretsuko season 2 did not disappoint. It was just as relatable and as hilarious as season 1. I can’t really put my finger on why but I think I actually like season 2 better than season 1. It may have something to do with the subplot of Retsuko getting her license at 25 years old, something that I am trying to do. There was also a lot of great social commentary on what it means to be an adult. I have already re watched this season 4 times. If that doesn’t show you how good it is I don’t know what will XD You can now watch both seasons 1 and 2 of Aggretsuko on Netflix.

Screen Shot 2019-08-29 at 10.59.14 PM

Amuse Unicorn (Tiny plush):

I am so thankful to have friends who think about me when I am not around. When my sibling friends went to Anime Next they picked me up a little surprise. It’s a little unicorn by Amuse. I love him very very much. He’s so soft and has beans inside him. Also he has an adorable pale yellow color and little stars and….well let’s face it I just love everything about him XD

Momiji Sohma Charm (DeerSen on etsy charm):

The last thing I want to talk about is this adorable Momiji Sohma double charm with Momiji in his human form and rabbit form. The new Fruits Basket anime has me wanting to make a Momiji Sohma ita bag and this charm will be the start of that project. The artist DeerSen on etsy did an amazing job with this charm. Here is an image of all the other charms in the collection:

If you are a Fruits Basket fan like me you will love these adorable charms :3

Favorites: May 2019

This month was a great month for me as far as taking chances and going a bit outside my comfort zone at times. I have some of my Monthly Favorites to thank for that! πŸ˜€

Cosplay Planning/Creation (Hobby): This month I really took some chances with cosplay planning and creation. For those of you who don’t know I love to lowkey cosplay whenever I can. Also, I have a ton of cosplay ideas but usually lack the motivation to take steps towards making the cosplays actually happen. My friend helped me get started by helping me out with my Chibi-Usa wig for a cosplay I have had planned to do with her for a long time: Chibi-Usa/Rini and Hotaru from Sailor Moon. Anyone who has seen Chibi-Usa can probably imagine what a challenge pulling off her hair for cosplay can be. The idea of attempting such a task can be daunting but my friend helped me get started. `Thank you so much, Gabriella! ;)`

I also started getting together pieces for a cosplay for Queen Eclipsa from Star vs the Forces of Evil. I am going to be making a prop (maybe two props), customizing a dress and do some wig styling. It was thanks to this panel I went to at Clovercon that I now feel more encouraged to take cosplay creation one step at a time and not get discouraged. I learned 2 valuable lessons from that panel. The first is that it is okay to try and fail when it comes to cosplay creation. The second is that you should have fun when you are creating cosplays. ~Thank you Anime Angel Blue for hosting such a great panel!~

Star vs the Forces of Evil (Show on Disney):

SVTFOE has been an emotional roller coaster more than it has been in previous seasons. The stakes were higher than ever before but of course not as high as the expectations of Star fans. Everyone wanted to be happy with the shows ending after everything we have been through with all the characters. There has been much debate on whether the ending of the series was good or not. Here is where I stand: I LOVED THE ENDING. Yes, there are a million unanswered questions but Star and Marco are together and happy. In the final moments I cried tears of joy and that felt good after other shows I watched ending last year on really tragic notes. It felt good to have an emotionally satisfying ending for the two leads since this entire series has revolved around their relationship since the beginning. Yes, the idea of the Laser Puppies and Spider with a Top Hat being dead makes me sad when I think about it (I try not to) and Earth and Mewni now being cleaved together may cause problems for humans but in my opinion is causes WAAAAAY more good than harm for the characters we have grown to love over the course of the show’s four seasons. While I do want so many questions answered about this show I am satisfied with the ending, I felt relieved that everything turned out as well as it did for my Starco shipper heart and for most of the characters I care about. Hopefully the show will do a Toffee and be like “SURPRISE!” we aren’t really over…we are coming out with a season 5, a movie or a comic (I would be happy with any of those three options but would prefer a movie most of all). Until the day where we hopefully get a surprise announcement I will continue to theorize, create fan art and re-watch all the amazing episodes that Daron Nefcy and her team blessed us with πŸ˜€ ❀

Overly Sarcastic Productions (YouTube Channel): I have known about this channel and have watched their content for quite some time but I didn’t start spending hours on end watching their videos until this month. This is a channel all about sharing enthusiasm and knowledge about literature and history: two topics that interest me greatly. I especially love Red’s Trope Talk videos about common tropes in literature and media. These videos help me keep my mind active while not stressing out cause the topics really interest me…. “Soooo..yeah.”

I rambled a lot so I don’t have the energy to write about my other monthly favorites. Oops! πŸ˜…I am going to leave my monthly favorites how it is. Onward to June! πŸ˜‰

Initial Book Thoughts: Under Rose-Tainted Skies by: Louise Gornall

I’ve had this book on my shelf for a while but have been reluctant to read it. While I have really enjoyed contemporary books in the past such as Flipped by: Wendelin Van Draanen, realistic stories are not normally the first genre I gravitate towards. This is because when I read for fun it is normally because I want an escape from reality so I go to fantasy (mostly YA and Middle Grade fantasy) as well as manga.

Under Rose-Tainted Skies has been on my shelf for a little while now and I got it because a friend recommended it and I was curious to read a book that portrayed the struggle of mental illness in a positive light. Now seemed to be the right time to attempt to read this book since I am a week away from a big test and am trying to expose myself to as many inspirational quotes as possible.

Last night I read the first two chapters and I am really impressed with the portrayal of mental illness so far. I find myself feeling invested in Norah’s problems as they are similar to my own but I also feel burdened in a way when I read about her struggles with feeling comfortable in public places. I started to question if this was because of issues I had with the writing style but upon reflection I realized that this is exactly how I am supposed to feel. What Norah is dealing with IS a heavy burden so it is not supposed to feel comfortable. Always thinking of the worst possible case scenario and getting angry and frustrated with yourself because you know your thoughts are irrational but you can’t control them is a HUGE burden, one that many have had to deal with to some extent.

I am surprised I have so much to say when I am literally only 14 pages into this book but this book really deals a heavy punch and is impressive in it’s depiction of mental illness right off the bat. I didn’t want to forget these initial feelings as I continued to read so I am posting these thoughts here. I will most likely write a full review once I am finished. See ya soon with more posts! πŸ˜‰

Favorites: April 2019

Time to talk about my favorites during the month of April! πŸ˜€

The Morose Mononokean (Anime): This series really caught me by surprise. I checked it out due to curiosity but was not expecting it to be a new favorite. This anime is about yokai (spirits/ghosts) that need to be exorcised and sent to the underworld. A high school student named Ashiya discovers that he can see yokai when he is suddenly possessed by one. He believes he is the only one who can see them until he meets Abeno, a student in his class who can not only see yokai but exorcise them as well. After Abeno exorcises the yokai possessing Ashiya, Ashiya is Abeno’s debt. The the two of them start working together to assist yokai and humans with yokai related issues. This may sound like your average yokai anime but what really makes it special is the banter between the sweet and sensitive Ashiya and the serious and uptight Abeno. The two fight all the time but make a perfect team. So far this series only has two seasons and I hope we get a season 3 very soon. Another thing to love about The Morose Mononokean is this little Fuzzball named Fuzzy! Look at Him:

If you love anime that is funny, cute and also has a compelling story then I highly recommend you give this new favorite of mine a try πŸ˜‰

Khan Academy (Learning Tool): I have been studying really hard for the math portion of the Praxis exam. Math gives me a lot of anxiety but my tutor as well as the site Khan Academy has helped me improve with math immensely. Khan Academy offers a variety of tools, including tutorial videos, detailed written explanations and practice problems. What is great about the practice problems is that they tell you right away if your answers are correct orΒ  not. The videos are easy to understand and I can always re-watch them as a refresher if I need to. Khan Academy has really been a life saver and I am grateful to whomever created it.

Shazam! (Movie): I loved this movie so much that I saw it in theaters twice. Super hero movies rule the movie scene and have been mainstream for a while now so I think it is easy for some of them to get overlooked, There are so many super hero movies to choose from. Thankfully Shazam! has been very well received. On the exterior it may only look like a goofy comedy disguised as super hero movie but it is actually a legitimately good super hero movie, meaningful family drama and a smart comedy. All the film’s elements: comedy, drama and action play into each other so well. The film is so well balanced and is completely engaging from beginning to end. I cannot wait to buy this movie on Blu-ray and for a Shazam! sequel to come out. πŸ˜€

SHAZAM Promo.jpg

Snow and Rose by: Emily Winfield Martin (Book): I found out about this book from Booktube and it did not disappoint. It is a retelling of a lesser-know fairytale called Snow White and Rose Red. I did not know about the fairytale until hearing about this book. I enjoyed learning about the fairytale from this book and from doing some research on it, Snow and Rose does a great job of adding upon the fairytale’s story without taking away anything significant to the story’s core. The book is filled with gorgeous water colored drawing that compliment the story. The atmosphere in the book is well presented and really immersed me as a reader. The ending of the story left me wanting more from the world and characters. If there wasΒ  ever a sequel to this I would be very happy about that.

She-ra and the Princesses of Power (Netflix Series): I am really happy with season 2 of this series. Sure, we got only 7 episodes instead of 13 like in season one but every single episode in season 2 was fantastic. I especially loved all of the parts with Scorpia and Shadow Weaver’s backstory. If you haven’t watched the new She-ra yet you are really missing out. The story and characters are so compelling and deep. I cannot wait for season 3. πŸ˜€

I ❀ Unicorns (Coloring Book): I am so glad I added this coloring book to my collection. There is so much variety in the book of coloring page types: simple drawings, detailed drawing and some drawing on black paper and all of them are adorable. The coloring book is also an adorable, tiny size that can fit inside my medium size purses. This book has been a lot of fun to coloring in with my gel pens, colored pencils, crayons and highlighters. πŸ˜€

April has been another great and productive month. I can’t wait to discover some new favorites during the month of May! πŸ˜€

Favorites: March 2019

March was a great month for me. It was a great month for personal growth and improvement of health. These are some of my favorites from the month of March. All of these favorites gave me a great sense of comfort during a very productive month.

Arendelle (Kingdom Hearts 3 World): KH3 SPOILERS AHEAD

This world in KH 3 really surprised me with how much fun it was. I’ve heard several complaints about this level for various reasons so my expectations were not very high. Literally my only complaint was that Donald’s magic could not make a jacket for Sora but it was really fun to poke fun at that along the way. I was not prepared for how gorgeous Arendelle would be. I loved the spot where you meet Anna, Kristoff, Sven and Olaf. The trees ornamented with ice crystals looked gorgeous, like they came straight out of the Frozen film. I actually had a lot of fun with the part where you had to look for the different parts of Olaf’s body- it’s hard to explain but for some reason I felt like a little kid when I was playing through that part. I also have to mention that I loved how you could run on top of snowballs and bulldoze over Heartless. Speaking of Heartless, the designs of the Heartless in this world were some of the most gorgeous and creative in the game thus far. I loved the deer Heartless with ice crystal antlers and I also loved the ice dragons with the iridescent wings. The most surprising part about Arendelle for me was that the giant snowman monster named Marshmallow joins your party. KH 3 gave some new depth to Marshmallow’s character that was not there before and I really appreciated that.

Green Tea with Peach (Bigelow Tea): This tea has become my go-to tea during the month of March. I tried it once a while back but I started drinking a lot of it recently because it was the only green tea we had and I really developed an attachment to the taste. I love iced teas with peach flavoring so it makes sense that I would also love hot tea with the same flavor. The Bigelow Green Tea with Jasmine is also delicious and I have been drinking a lot of that as well but the Green Tea with Peach is my current favorite. πŸ˜€

We Bare Bears (Cartoon Network Show):

I watch a lot of plot heavy shows and it can be exhausting sometimes wondering if everything is going to turn out okay for the characters. We Bare Bears is a breath of fresh air. While there is an overall story for the entire series We Bare Bears is very episodic in nature. The episodes can easily be seen out of order without the viewer being confused as to what is going on. Each episode is a self contained story with a beginning, middle and end. There is no pressure or obligation to watch every single episode to understand the story, although if you are like me and enjoy the show you will want to see every single episode. It is always evident that the bear bros will reach their happy ending by the end of the episode the only question is “how will they do it?” and it is so much fun watching them discover how to reach their goals, especially in the Baby Bears episodes. πŸ˜€ If you love cute stories, good animation and great circumstantial humor then I think you will also love We Bare Bears. Some episode recommendations: Chloe and Ice Bear, The Demon, Lil’ Squid, Professor Lampwick and The Road.

Star vs the Forces of Evil Season 4 (Disney Channel Show): Star vs the Forces of Evil took very unexpected directions at the end of season 3 and we were left wondering what this all meant for Star, Marco and the rest of the characters. So far while watching this season, it has been looming over me that this is Star’s final season and it makes me feel really sad. I will try not to think about it and just enjoy the ride. As usual the series takes even more unexpected directions, addresses complicated ideas and is full of laughs and adorable moments. πŸ˜€ There has not been an episode in the season yet that does not play some important role in character development or pushes the plot forward and it is really good to see that during this final season of the show. I can tell the crew was using the time they had left with the show wisely. I love Star’s new outfits this season, especially the blue overall skirt outfit with the hearts. I’m excited to see what happens next! πŸ˜€maxresdefault.jpg

Fruits Basket (manga and anime):

In anticipation of the new anime series coming out I have been re-reading the Fruits Basket manga. I haven’t read the manga in years so in many ways it feels as if I am reading the manga for the first time. The manga has excellent pacing with its story and character development and I have earned a new appreciation for some characters I didn’t pay much notice to before, especially Tohru’s best friends Saki Hanajima and Arisa Uotani. This series is often remembered for it’s famous love triangle but it also really should be remembered for the female friendships illustrated. A lot of other shojo series I have read lack substance in the female friendships department.Β  I have been enjoying my re-read of Fruits Basket so much that I don’t want it to end so I have been slowing my pace a little bit.

Also this month I saw the first two episodes of Fruits Basket (2019) in theaters and it was amazing. I made a blog post where I went in depth into my experience if you wish to read that.

Thank you for reading my monthly favorites. I look forward to discovering some more favorites during the month of April. πŸ˜€

Fruits Basket 2019 Pre-Premiere Thoughts

Tonight I saw the theatrical release of the first 2 episodes of Fruits Basket (2019). I am so happy that I went to this event. It was not just a showing of the new anime but a gathering of fans who loved the original Fruits Basket anime and manga. Seeing others bring plushes of characters and wearing cat ears let me know that I was in good company. Everyone who purchased a ticket was given some Fruits Basket promo goodies that really enhanced the experience. The goodies included: a Fruits Basket cup, a lanyard and 3 character buttons all with new artwork for the anime. Prior to the episodes showing there were two behind the scenes features. One was a sit down interview with some of the Japanese cast: Tohru’s voice actress, Kyo’s voice actor and Yuki’s voice actor. The other special feature was a video showing some of the cast of the English dub along with the ADR director talking about their thoughts on returning to Fruits Basket after all of these years.

After the special features the episodes began. Right off the bat I was blown away by the animation. I haven’t seen an anime animated in a style quite like this new Fruits Basket before and it is truly beautiful. Even though this incarnation of Fruits Basket has a more serious tone than its 2001 predecessor, this new series has already proven in its first two episodes that it can also pull off more comical scenes with its animation style.

Fruits Basket 2019 Trailer 3

The English Dub cast has done an amazing job with the first two episodes of Fruits Basket (2019). While many of the voice actors/actresses are reprising their roles they are giving their performances of their characters a fresh take to match the more serious and realistic style and tone of this new anime. Laura Bailey is more soft spoken as Tohru Honda this time around and it really works. Even though the way she is going about voicing Tohru for this round of Fruits Basket is a bit different, it is clear within the first scene alone that once again Laura Bailey was the perfect choice for Tohru Honda. The same can be said for the rest of the returning cast. As far as the new cast members are concerned, they fit right in. The actresses for Hana and Uo don’t quite match the sound of the yankee and psychic girl archetypes with their voices like in the original dub but these new actresses work perfectly with this less cartoony versions of Fruits Basket (which is weird to say since it is also animated but I think most anime fans probably know what I am talking about).

When the screening ended the theater erupted with groans…groans of delight because everyone wanted more episodes right away. After the groans subsided, applause followed. I cannot wait till April 5th when I get to watch these episodes again as well as more episodes. Like many others I will be rereading the manga to help me get my fix until then. 😊 Thank you for reading!!!
